Collage Backyard Bird – American Goldfinch

This in person class will focus on collaging a backyard bird in their environment. We will create a collage of an American Goldfinch and the  
class will focus on colors and design of the background and bird. An image of the American Goldfinch will be provided.

Amazon River Cruise

Travel with Bird Alliance of Oregon on a once-in-a-lifetime cruise through the heart of upper Amazonia, on the largest river in the world! The Amazonian region boasts more than 120 endemic species and may be the most biologically diverse place on the planet – a true paradise. We will bird on a variety of tropical forest walks, observe wildlife and explore canals and lagoons by watercraft, and take in the Peruvian culture and history.

The Warbler Tour! Magee Marsh & Michigan

Enjoy up to 36 species of brilliantly colorful warblers along the famous boardwalk of Magee Marsh. We’ll delight in watching up to 150 species as the marshes come alive with birds. Then we’ll head to northern Michigan to find the incredible and rare Kirtland’s Warbler to conclude this memorable Midwest adventure.

Let’s explore the Klamath Basin, home to six national wildlife refuges and one of the most important wetland ecosystems in the west! Our visit is timed to see the spectacular spring migration of geese, along with a great diversity of waterfowl and plenty of raptors too.

Have you experienced the sights and sounds of tens of thousands of Snow Geese settling into their daily feeding grounds? From the exciting specialty species to the always-pleasing regulars such as Vermilion Flycatcher and Mountain Plover, this trip will delight any level of birdwatcher.

Field Trip: Fernhill for Beginners

Join Stefan for a 1 mile loop around Fernhill Wetlands. We will look at everything, but our focus is on the basics of the birds that are present. Waterfowl is most abundant, but there also should be some raptors, little birds and maybe shorebirds. Don’t forget to bring binoculars; that’s all you are going to need.

The Best of Panama

Join Dan and Candace as we explore an exciting diversity of regions and habitats, seeking some of the most beautiful birds in Central America. Located at the intersection of North and South America, Panama is a volcanic isthmus that rose from the sea a mere 3 million years ago to form what is nicknamed the Monkey’s Bridge. This geologic link allowed the exchange overland of mammals, birds and plants, and contributed to Panama’s incredible biological diversity. Over 1000 bird species have been seen in this tropical paradise slightly smaller than the state of South Carolina. Please join us for this wild and wonderful adventure!

School Break Day Camp

Let's practice our stealth and hiding skills! We will learn what type of movements allow us to travel undetected through the woods, how we can learn from animals to better camouflage ourselves and hone our powers of observation. Spend the day hiking the trails, camouflaging into the forest and investigating signs of animals that inhabit our forest.

Beginning Birding and Sauvie Island Exploration

Join Greg Baker and Ricky Allen for Saturday morning explorations at one of Oregon’s most accessible Important Bird Areas, Sauvie Island Wildlife Area.  

This class series is perfect for those interested in developing and sharpening their birding skills under a variety of field conditions with expert birders. Explore different habitats on the island, learn bird calls, and search for waterfowl, songbirds, and raptors

Watercolor Painting with Ronna: Northern Flicker

In this class, students will paint a fun close up of a Northern Flicker, learning how to mix neutral colors, as well as techniques of layering colors to create various feather patterns. Your instructor, Ronna Fujisawa of Salty Water Art, will be your guide through the step-by-step process of painting birds in watercolor.

Bird Journals for Beginners and Continuing Journalers!

Get started or continue with your bird journal, using drawing, simple watercolor, and writing. We use specimens and photos to practice. You will try simple ways to learn to see in new ways, then draw, write, and use watercolors, and develop your pages. No art experience needed, just enthusiasm and a few tools! Register for each class separately.

This event is a partnership with Wild Diversity and is reserved for BIPOC & LGBTQ2S+ community.  
Start the new year off birding with us! We’ll keep it local at the beloved Whitaker Ponds in the NE industrial area. Whitaker Ponds is a local favorite for beginner birders and bird nerds alike. This morning we may see plenty of wintering waterfowl on the ponds and Slough.  
If you’ve ever been curious about the birds around you, join Camelia and Candace as we learn from each other and in community!  
Binoculars will be provided.

Pacific Northwest Trip: Explore Okanogan

Join us to explore one of the most spectacular and productive areas of the Pacific Northwest for birding: the Okanogan. This mid/late June trip features the many habitats of the area including grasslands, forests, high elevation, wetlands and shrub steppe. We should expect to see 150 species of birds, including highlights like Bobolink, Williamson’s Sapsucker, forest grouse, Least Flycatcher, Veery and Clay-colored Sparrow and an assortment of colorful butterflies and wildflowers.
