Travel the path of the great Ice Age Floods from Missoula to Portland on this popular geology, birding, and wildlife tour. Our journey begins in western Montana, where a great lake once covered 3,000 square miles of land, before bursting through a massive ice dam and carving many of the geologic wonders we marvel at today. Deep Birding through the Seasons: The Next Generation

Join Dan and Candace as we use a slower approach to connecting with nature with a focus on understanding birds. From March through July, we’ll dive deep into our senses, focusing on awareness and intention, careful observation, inspired field journaling and basic illustration and mindfulness.

We’ll begin each 3-week module with an evening class to orient ourselves to the rhythm of the season, followed by weekly field days in a variety of local natural areas. Each field excursion will include both group activities and solo sit spots, exercises in birding without binoculars, deep listening and an opportunity to weave creativity into our birding practice.

Module 3: The Next Generation - Kiddos abound in July, providing us a great opportunity to experience the complex struggle for survival and dispersal.
